Broadsands Bistro - Paignton

Okay, first the good. the location is excellent as the facilities. Eat, once it was very good, but it took forever to get for the job. I would not use this place at the height of the season definitiw, first negatiw. second negatiw is the posture of the woman behind the cash register, said to get a bottle of water out of the refrigerator, they come on there are many places where when the refrigerator is accessible, then they would be expected to help themselves. worse still it took 20 minutes for a bottle of still water and arrive 3 doses pop, and it was not the right order when it came. then I was told in a very “school mother” style to leave my dog on my lap. I swear it was there for not more than 2 seconds before I read. I would go back there, but maybe only if it was quiet

Visited the Bistro today with my family. Lovely location and nice decor but ruined by the attitude of the woman who works there. She very sharply told me not to get my own drinks from the fridge, even though it looked like it was self-service (it wasn’t behind the till, but in a public area, as though you are supposed to take your cold drinks to the till). She then told off a small boy for bringing his scooter in, and upset him. Then when she brought us our drinks on the terrace area, she told our son to get his wellies off the bench seat in case he got sand on it. This was a wooden bench OUTSIDE, which is metres from a sandy beach!! I wouldn’t mind if it was inside, but one gust of wind and the sand from the beach will reach the benches anyway! When we asked for sweeteners, she came out with a small dispenser and put the sweeteners in our drinks for us. If you’re going to be that particular, perhaps choose a job that isn’t customer facing.

I have never reviewed before but find myself compelled to do so today. I have visited Broadsands 5 or so times, a lovely place with people enjoying themselves with friends, family and pets but every time I have attempted to frequent the Bistro I have been met with rude and abrupt service from a member of staff there. Food is just food with out friendly service and our experience has been diminished on every visit by petty rules, rudely delivered . I will restrict my patronage to the coffee stand a couple of hundred metres away where service is friendly in future.

Very poor attitude of what I assume is the owner, older blonde female. Not a child friendly place at all with me being told my three year old cant have his feet on the chair yet his legs aren’t able to reach past the chair and there was no alternative seating to accommodate children yet they have a child menu. Both my children sat very well, literally eating there food. The owner spoke to me in a very abrupt manner, very poor attitude and condescending tone. very poor customer service, needless to say I didn’t spend any more money nor would I return. There were three younger male staff members that appeared intimidated by the “owner”, one especially didn’t appear to be able to do anything right, the “owner” shouted at the staff on three separate occasions in front of customers. I assume this is the reason why the “cafe” is not very busy. The food wasn’t the best, the sandwich we had was ok, wasn’t great but wasn’t bad however the chips were very poor with most of the with black bits on or appearing bruised and nuggets had a funny taste. The only positive I could say was they did take out drinks for the beach. I would advise to take your own to save money or use the takeaway section attached which may be the same as they looked the same frozen chips .

Terrible service, we had a long journey and I brought my 4 year old daughter and aunt for lunch this week. Silver haired lady owner barked orders at my daughter to keep her feet off the chairs and wooden seat even though she isn’t tall enough to reach the table. No children’s seat offered or nice manner when “told off”. Food average and woman owner made my aunt feel uncomfortable too when discussing the menu. Terrible service and such a shame as we had a long journey. Ruined experience by awkward owner. We aren’t the only ones- read other reviews as most customers have complained about the same thing! It also happened to us!!!!
