Heart Of Gold Diner - Oak Hill

Having read the reviews and the high rating, we decided to stop here on our way to TN. I love chicken fried steak! However, the white gravy had the consistency and taste of paper maché paste. Except for a few lumps of flour that were in it. The steak itself wasn't bad. For sides I had (canned) green beans that was fine, and really delicious coleslaw. I love southern biscuits, but unfortunately this biscuit was thrown in the microwave to heat up, just as the steak and green beans were. Pre-cooked, then reheated. We like eating at diners as the food is normally cooked fresh and comes out fast. I was suspicious when our meal come out within 3 minutes of ordering it. Our waitress was friendly and attentive and definitely the highlight of the meal.

The server brought our beverages out to the table holding the rims of our cups. She also served our food with plates resting on top of each other. Can you say cross-contamination? Osha and West Virginia Health Department for Food Safety would love to come here. I ordered the 2 pork chop meal and was served 2 slices of a dry pork loin. Two of my guests ordered steak burgers which were both cooked beyond well done. When this was brought to the server's attention she got an attitude and with what little service we got it got worse!!! I was sad to say it was the worst place I stopped to eat in Oak Hill. #osha #westvirginahealthdepartemend

It was a quaint little restaurant, food was delicious and so reasonably priced. The waitress was so sweet and just the right amount of attentiveness. The deserts were awesome, I had the holy cow it was delicious. The graphics painted on the side of the building are really amazing , 1 side coal miners, other side 57 Chevy. Amazing small restaurant. Will definitely go again, located in Oak Hill, WV. 5 stars. Food: 5
