Bidrage med feedbackWe had to return our fondue three different times because it was not warm enough. We had to actually add water to our wine to make it taste better. The carrots and mushrooms were super acidic and the bread was old and there was a crazy drunk lady who kept trying to get up in our business. Do not recommend. also, there was a chunk of cork in my wine. We should not have paid for that meal, but I hate confrontation so here we are paying 80 bucks for the worst meal ever
I am so disappointed from tonight's dinner. They call themselves a fondue place, which is supposed to be their specialty. They served our fondue COLD and we sent it back twice to have it warmed up. Bread was old and tasting stale. Absolutely not recommended!
I 've been coming to Friar Tuck 's for over 30 years and could always count on it for just about everything good, most especially their old-world style cheese fondue (as opposed to more 'modern ' takes on it like you get at The Melting Pot, which always comes off wrong on the palate). Last night, I was taken aback at the drastic change in the menu items, and the fondue sadly did not escape an entire deconstruction of its former glory. First of all, the cheese was quite tasty but not the original authentic recipe we 've come to expect (ie. Swiss Gruyere and Emmenthaler plus a dash of kirsh). To make matters worse, I had to ask for the nutmeg. They brought out a generous portion in a little cup but when I dipped into it and applied it, it was way too much and made a mess both visually and flavor-wise. The amount of bread was way less than normal and the bread was toasted, which made for an admittedly tasty but troubling change. It just didn 't seem right, like something an amateur chef would do to think he was livening things up. But the worst surprise of all was that the mushrooms were buttered and heavily sautéed, which made for a disaster when trying to dip them into the cheese. A truly awful choice, as was the cauliflower which had been roasted over a flame (another catastrophe when dipping). Both of these would have made tasty side items on a steak and potatoes order, but for fondue? Never! And don 't even get me started on the broccoli, because there wasn 't any. What a disappointment. Even the apple slices were way too thin, which made for a real challenge trying to keep them on the skewer. No carrots either. What a waste! I could have done way better on all of this at home with a more authentic recipe cheese packet from World Market and my rickety home fondue kit. I am puzzled as to why this long-trusted restaurant would see fit to tamper with the best cheese fondue in a 200 mile radius (at least) after several decades of serving it up perfectly time after time. On a good note, the wait staff, hosts and bartender were wonderful as they have always been. I wish I could say the same about the food. I am planning on sending a personal letter to the manager when I 'm done typing this. I hope he reads it.
We have been coming here for over twenty years for special occasions and we live 1.5 hours away in Lake Tahoe We went in last night and we were greeted with a rude little lady saying we would have to wait for almost 2 hours for a table ! There are two of us and we didn't want to sit and wait two hours for a table! First time this place has disappointed us! We went to bistro 221 and they seated us immediately we had a nice bottle of wine and enjoyed our dinner! The rude girl should have listened when I said we've been coming here for years and the owner knows us!
This is a magical restaurant experience. The food is thoughtful and the service is impeccable. The owners were so kind. My friends and I are here for a girls' weekend and this has been the best start. Definitely try the cabbage schnitzel! It defied my expectations.
