Cafe Mezcal - Montréal

Cute little spot with outdoor seating. I had horchata and tacos on corn tortillas as I have celiac disease and it needs to be gluten free.

We were walking past when we noticed this charming Mexican restaurant. All three of our meals (enchiladas verde, chicken tacos and chilaquiles) were amazing! Authentic Mexican drinks completed our meal (horchada and hibiscus juice). Having been to Mexico many times, we are usually disappointed by Mexican restaurants in Canada (that are more Texan than Mexican). Not this time! Delicious!

So I do love Mexican food and I have tried it in many countries as I am a world traveller. It's safe to say that this is the worst Mexican food I've ever tried. It was so bad that I literally took one bite and stopped just as you can see on the picture. I had to pay and went order real dinner somewhere else. I ordered beef Tacos. First the presentation was terrible, Secondly it was just a boiled peace of meat on top of a soggy nan bread. It was so soggy that I could not pick the taco with hands the normal way, I had to use a folk. I know this is probably a family run business but the chef should try putting some effort on the food. Add some spices, make sure the bread is not all soggy. I had to wait for almost an hour for the food and got this at the end of the day. I understand Mexican food could taste differently depending on where in Mexico the chef is from but this was just a disaster as I have tried them all. On the bright side side, the waiter was great. Eat here at your own risk.

Really traditional, really good, really fresh products. And the people are nice. Finally the real taste of Mexico!!

Really enjoyed our lunch here. True Mexican food that was fresh and flavorful. Our server was friendly and efficient. Would definitely go back again.
