Trattoria Dai Frati - MONTE ARGENTARIO

TERRIBLE SERVICE. Made an 8pm reservation several weeks ahead. Knew we weren’t going to make it in time so tried calling ahead three times within opening hours. They did not pick up the phone. Went in at 9pm to see if we could change to a reservation for the following night. The server was extremely rude and refused to change our reservation and and it wasn’t their responsibility to answer the phone, even when there was not any other way of communication. Claimed they sent people away to save our table, but the restaurant was only half full. Very weird experience. We were looking forward to dining here but now would not recommend.

Came there based on good reviews which turned out totally misleading. The place is uphill and you can see the port if you are lucky with the table outside. The service is fast and friendly. But the food is really mediocre even for the relatively cheap price. Water is from the tap and filtrated. Tartar was just meat and lacked any creativity. The duck was with some marinated veggies and potatoes, tasteless and not what expected. Finally, the truffle spaghetti was over salted and just the taste of salt. We ordered spumante for 20 EUR, which was hoped to be at least good as in other restaurants for this price. What we got is 5EUR retail price (wholesale should be 3 EUR) some terrible beverage. All in all, it is cheaper by 20-30% than other restaurants and if you want to spend 50 -70 EUR for two instead of 70-90 EUR go to that restaurant. But do not expect positive food experience. Better get pizza at the port then.

Ate here twice even though we were just in town for a week. When you go back, on such a short stay, you know it’s good. The staff is super friendly and helpful in making selections from the menu. This is a meat place. The steaks are outstanding, the pork is great and the antipasti are the best we’ve had. Go here hungry and go nuts! The piece de resistance is however, in my humble opinion, the dessert. They make a Zuppa Inglese Sbalgliata that is amazing!! You can reserve inside or outside, both have their charm although the view from the balcony outside is nice. But do reserve, it gets busy fast.

Trovato per caso in un fine settimana in novembre. pappagallo del frate superlativo e primo delizioso . provare la zuppa inglese e anche tutto!
