Bidrage med feedbackMan, wanted to like this place but ultimately definitely did not. Pros: Salad wasn't bad Staff was friendly Decent area If you are really vain there are mirrors everywhere Cons: Sushi was small and not very flavorful Service was unbelievably slow.. To the point of leaving multiple times.. Took nearly an hour until we received our rolls Kitchen was suspect in terms of cleanliness.. Never wanna walk out of place thinking you took a chance Servers were overwhelmed and not attentive Decor and restaurant were aged.. Think early 90s Microwaveable items? Sound of a microwave in any restaurant isn't very appealing Bottom line: If you have a groupon, like I did.... It still Isn't worth it. Midori has to take a strong look in the mirror(they have lots to pick from) and return to their former glory of bigger portions more flavor and better service if they want to continue business.
You definitely are not coming here for the atmosphere. It is kind of small and dingy. We had a groupon so we decided to give it a go, even though the reviews have been iffy. We were one of two tables of people in the place and our service was very good. We shared 4 different specialty rolls and while they were good, they weren't great. I thought they were a bit pricey for the quality. If I were to come back it would probably only be for the lunch specials.
I usually start positive and I have a soft spot for divey restaurants that excel in some combination of good food and service. Unfortunately for Midori the best I can say is it's not terrible. We all have that relative who many family members are often praising for the culinary talents when the reality is they're not great. In my personal experience all little old Italian ladies in black dresses are NOT good cooks. That's the situation here except substitute Asian for Italian.
Food 4 Stars Inside/Ambiance 2 Stars Now, I am not the type of person that needs a fancy place to go to eat, by any means. Or even super nice. But this place just felt kind of dirty. The carpet looked like it had never been vacuumed. It was super weird when I went into the women's bathroom and the seat was up (and it was not freshly cleaned). And it was kind of awkward because one whole wall was a mirror. Our table was right against it and I kept seeing myself in the corner of my eye. I don't know about you, but I don't want to sit and watch myself eat. With that being said, the food itself was very tasty. We started off with some salmon sushimi. Yum! Then we split the Beverly Hills and Shrimp Tempura rolls. Both were very good. HIGHLY recommend the Beverly Hills roll cucumber, avocado, tempura shrimp, eel, crab, scallop, white tuna, tuna, flying fish roe with a special sauce. The staff was friendly. Attentive. My recommendation? Try takeout.
I think Midori is quite charming and very good. I have been there twice now. After going recently, I told the chef there that it was some of the best tasting sushi and sashimi I have ever eaten. I got the sushi and sashimi chef's special, to the chef's recommendation who came out and talked to us before ordering. The variety of tunas, salmon, red snapper, and a couple others was extremely fresh and well-prepared. The spicy tuna roll in the middle was wonderful. My wife got a chicken teriyaki bento box which including excellent offerings with great presentation. Mequon is lucky to have a place like this hidden in it. You will hear many here complaining about the atmosphere. True, it's not some glitzy, high-production, expensive place like a hibachi grill chain or some of the trendy places downtown. It is a a mom pop restaurant, both of whom are quite friendly, and take pride in their craft of Japanese food. Does the ambiance leave one wanting...sure. But it's better than the food being the aspect suffering!
