Key West Shrimp House may not impress at first glance, but the interior tells a different story. The food is outstanding—pure comfort food made with fresh, wholesome ingredients that create a fantastic menu. The atmosphere reminds me of the quirky King Fish restaurants that once filled Louisville, but are now mostly gone. There's a charming "hole-in-the-wall" vibe to the place, but it’s definitely not a negative. The food is fantastic, the drinks are top-notch, and the history of the building, which used to be a button factory using bowls from Ohio River freshwater invertebrates, is fascinating. I had a wonderful time here!
My waiter, Bryce, was exceptionally attentive and personable. He expertly explained the entrées and answered all my questions. I decided on the New York Strip, cooked medium, with lobster and a double-baked potato. Bryce assured me that "medium" really meant medium and, when my meal arrived, he asked me to check the steak to ensure it was to my liking. It was cooked to absolute perfection. The highlight of my evening occurred when the hostess returned to ask how I was enjoying my meal. Her evident passion for the restaurant piqued my interest, and I couldn't help but ask if she was the owner. To my surprise, she was! Hahahaha! Cathy took the time to share her story of how she became the owner, and what began as a brief conversation turned into a delightful 25-minute chat well after the restaurant had closed. I haven't felt this welcomed in a restaurant in a long time. With Cathy's South Carolina roots and southern charm, my experience was truly wonderful and unforgettable. I highly recommend Key West Shrimp House!
The food and the service were excellent, as always. My wife enjoyed the king crab legs, while I had lobster and grilled shrimp. We also ordered crab cakes and fried onions. Along with our meals and the salad bar, we were served seafood chowder and double-baked potatoes.
We stopped in for lunch today with our two kids before heading out of town after our annual Thanksgiving trip. We were pleasantly surprised by the safety measures in place...
