Bonk Soup Sandwich - Lake Bluff

Interesting little place inside of a bike shop. Smells like rubber but not in a bad way. There is no seating so it's more of a to go place and there were ads for a pizza restaurant in there which was confusing since there was no pizza on the menu. The guy working was kind of rude and not paying attention. He also wasn't cleanly when making the food as he used gloves but also touched rags and his face before touching the food with the same gloves. Additionally there was a hair in my sandwich which he saw and tried to remove but once he realized he couldn't, he covered it with another piece of cheese before toasting . I got the Rustic Tomato Soup and a build your own half sandwich combo. The soup was awful and tasted like straight up watery marinara sauce but even that would be better. My friend got the butternut squash soup which allegedly tasted like a watered down candle so something makes me think the soups are not what they're known for. The chips that came with the combo were good and the sandwiches were delicious but the fact that there was a hair in mine and the way it was prepared put me off a bit. I would definitely go back for a sandwich but would hope someone else would be working or at least request more attention to cleanliness while cooking.

Quaint food and bike shop serving sandwiches, soups, flatbreads, and homemade ice cream along with bicycle equipment. I tried a sandwich. They have the perfect toast. Nothing special but great location in this quiet suburban downtown.

The Craig. House-made bacon. Spicy aioli. Nuff said. The service was fast and friendly. Must return to try the ice cream. Great place to stop if you are biking through Lake Bluff.
