Bidrage med feedbackWe nearly walked right by this little gem at the end of our visit to the market at Inca. It is hidden by stalls if you approach it from where the market is set up, but a detour because of an electrical fire led us past its windows, so we popped in to see what was on offer. A beautiful high-ceilinged interior greeted us; high shelves stocked with wines, oils, biscuits, jams and more, and a refrigerator cabinet laden with baked goods. Encouragingly, there were locals enjoying pastries and cafe solo at the two little tables in the shop, and a good steady stream of locals coming in for pastries and cakes, including the ubiquitous ensaimadas, but also cremadillos, pastels, sachertorte, and quite a few things that weren't labelled. Naturally, I had to try one of those. In my broken Spanish, we left with a cremadillo choco, pastel de manzana, tarta choco and one of the unlabelled items of baked goods that I desperately want to know the name of, because it was amazing, but we were offered it as an option without finding out what it was called. All were lovely but let me dwell on that unnamed slice of deliciousness. It had a sponge base, what I believe to be an egg custard on top, with a lovely char and smokiness to it from having been baked in a wood-fired oven. It was pretty sweet, but this was balanced by the smokiness. Despite my best efforts, I have not been able to find out what it is called, so I'll have to make the journey to Inca again when next we visit Mallorca to find out. Well worth a visit, and if you know what that cake/tart is called, please tell me!!!
We stumbled across this wonderful old fashioned, Spanish bakery. Certainly loved by the locals. Excellent coffee and cakes served by ladies who know the needs of their clients. Amazing decor. Well worth a detour.
