Bidrage med feedbackThis restaurant recently opened after undergoing a complete renovation. Upon arrival, we were promptly served a pot of tea and a couple of small, delicious cakes with a smile. The front area of the restaurant has comfortable seating for dining in or out, while the back area is dedicated to a delicatessen setup with a variety of European delicacies. Give it a try, you won't be disappointed!
We used to go there for picking up our favourite groumet pizzas and sometimes lasane & veal permigana. Now we would go there to have a table to enjoy main dishes rather than just pizzas.Since new management improved their presentation for main dishes, they come with very good sides (salad, chips or roasted vege). As other people say, if you go there expecting the pizzas that you used to love, you may be dissapointed and heart broken. But just go there as a new restaurant, the food quality is really good for the price. I think you should give a chance to try on your own.My child really appreciates the finer presentation of her favourite lasagne with better quality chips and salad! We would no longer go to la porchetta, this is the better virsion of the family restaurant!
We used to be regulars here for many years and always enjoyed it. However since the change of management this Elsternwick institution has gone down a big hill very quickly. They have removed the pizza oven and pizza prep area from the front, and now even the pizzas are made out the back. Our pizzas tasted like they were either wholly frozen pizzas or made from frozen pizza bases. It was a complete disappointment. It seems like this formerly Italian restaurant has lost all vestiges of Italianess along with its soul.I definitely can't recommend it.
We visited this restaurant for a family members birthday. We chose this restaurant because we had been taking our kids there for many years as they were growing up and the meals and service were always great and the owners and staff fantastic. Unbeknown to us since last going there this restaurant has changed hands and although they still espouse it as the best italian cuisine in Melbourne I can assure you it isn't. When we ordered drinks it took 3 goes for one of our party to find a type of beer on their menu that they actually had in stock. The meals were awful. The lightly salted calamari was frozen crumbed calamari (over cooked) and served with chips. The pastas were flavorless and just awful. I regretfully post this review as it used to be a really good restaurant but now I could not recommend it to anyone.
I have visited this restaurant in different stages of my life - as a young man, a middle-aged man, alone, or with a partner. No one feels lonely when eating pizza! The restaurant has been renovated and updated under new management, but still maintains its charming Italian rustic atmosphere. The sturdy wooden tables and chairs, the wooden panels, and metal columns from 1970 are all still there. This is a cozy and refined place to enjoy pizza - the ambiance is friendly and you can easily have a conversation without any noise. The service is excellent, with a surprisingly good selection of wines by the glass. The pizzas are some of the best I have had, rivaling those in Italy and Carlton. The thin and delicious pizza crusts, top-quality toppings, and the special house pizza - paspancho with pastrami, pancetta, haloumi, chorizo, Napoli cheese, olives, and tomatoes - are worth traveling 30 kilometers for. The pizzas have maintained their great taste over the years and have only gotten better with time.
