We rocked the FEW Spirits in Evanston and think it's an unduplicatable venue! Early Thompson Sq. vibez. Proud to have it a part of our legacy.
FEW actually F.E.W Distillery is a hole in the wall gem that puts out an array of fine spirits from a micro, micro operation. Finding it is half the fun it being tucked down an alleyway next to the train tracks behind some nondescript stores. The rustic entry doubles as a tasting room. Directly behind you is about 90% of the operation. Reservations need to be made due to the small size of the operation but we booked same day on a Saturday without a problem. Our host was a pleasant street wise chick whose initially kitchy delivery grew on me as the samples were...sampled. The tour involves standing and pointing at the stills and other equipment where everything is made. Simple but very cool. The output basically Gin (because it can be sold without aging) and Bourbon because.. bourbon are interesting and surprisedly smooth. After tasting about 6 types of gin and bourbon I sprung for a bottle of Bottled in Bind Whisky. The owner even happened by when we were there. A great stop for a quick drop. F.E.W....phew....Go
This was such a great tour. Our guide was funny and personable and didn't take themselves so seriously that they couldn't answer d questions (from me. I asked all the d questions). They gave good recommendations for gifts and they were generous with the tasting. I don't know if I've had a better tour. The bonus part was that this was significantly cheaper than other tours. Definitely recommend for a chill weekend activity.
It's a small distilery but what they lack in size they make up for in character and atmosphere. We showed up for a tour and tasting and let me say we had a great time. Very informative, funny, and fully worth the time. With all that said the liquid they are producing there is some mighty fine stuff. My friend bought some barrel aged gin and we plan on trying to make some awesome cocktails with it! Thanks for the memories!
