Bidrage med feedbackWe had high expectations of this place. Setting fantastic. Great grounds for kids. Food very ordinary at best for something that charges full Melbourne prices. Had a lunch. Burgers were not great and for what you pay thy did not give much even very few chips. The service was the worst I have had in a long time. Far too few staff members. Had to keep asking for service, had to clear our own table from previous customers and had to chase them down to get our bill. Won't go back and certainly won't recommend it given the many choices in the area. It's really sad given the potential that this place could be a gold mine if run well.
We arrived on a cold wet Sunday to find that there was a wait for both the inside and outside eating areas. Luckily the heaters outside are great and even while waiting the chill was taken off the air. Coffee was offered while waiting to add help reduce the cold. Finally after a short wait we got a table inside for 7 of us and the service and food were just great.
Sadly each time I return here it feels a little more homogeneous. For what you get in terms of service and value there seems to be a cutting edge missing.
A very nice setting and best food. Top marks. Out away from the city. The burgers and desert was the best i have ever eaten
I suppose any venture associated with Shannon Bennett brings with it a standard, and high one at that, so as a family of 3 venturing out of Melbourne to Sherbrooke for a late breakfast our expectation was high. The drive out lovely and in approaching the grounds, you immediately were pleased to see children playing (as school holidays), the lush surrounds, sounds of wildlife all set amongst a very pleasant but casual layout - certainly there was little fuss about it at all. We were immediately seated rear of serving area, which is very much communal style seating arrangements. Wait staff were pleasant and attentive. The menu VERY basic I mean it contained little description of the meals. prep or ingredients and No kids menu. So as you can imagine what is ordered, to what is served is unlikely going to meet your expectation! My son ordered pancakes with banana - one would expect fluffy, sweet, indulgent pancakes - Nope they are heavy, grainy as made from almond meal. This was not communicated by the service staff or detailed on menu. So you must understand our upset after waiting for 30 mins, after one mouthful a spit out of food - how could anything be so disgusting I thought? Well he was right ..yuk! As he pushed to the side, his upset made clear, staff member then explained reason why... perplexed I commented as to why this was not made clear on menu or upon ordering, was only meet with a shrug of the shoulders. A croissant offered as a replacement and saved the day. My husband then ordered braised potatoes - egg was poached hard boiled, then quickly sent back and replaced, but believe it or not, the meal came without bread! Really, breakfast meal with NO TOAST! Finally my dish, avocado toast ( yes I know boring) its just I rarely eat it and thought I would give it a go, then after eating it I remember why so bland and mushy....Couldnt see the feta, and egg was just warm. So the entire lacklustre experience set up back just over $70. I could have / should have, remained in Melbourne and ate at our local in Moonee Ponds - significantly better meal with an even better price! So is it over rated, did it meet the Shannon standard? YES absolutely overrated and YES such a let down for an establishment associated with Mr Bennett...But the drive was nice!
