The White Swan

Went here on its final day. A cozy, galleried pub that has been with me for many years. Now gone forever. Closed, and tossed out upon memories dimming in time inside me.

Traditional British pub food in a historic London area. The main dining room was unavailable, but we received attentive service from the bar staff. Transported back to a different era.

Great for meat lovers! The game terrine is amazing, and they also have delicious Barnsley chops, steaks, pies, and burgers. They also offer good fish dishes. The wine list is imaginative with a selection of good wines by the glass and cask ales.

At the midpoint of a busy week, I decided to treat myself by taking a break from work for a few hours. After a quick text to my friend and a made-up excuse of a client meeting, I headed to the White Swan near Chancery Lane for a leisurely lunch. The restaurant had recently been renovated and my friend Mr. Flavour and I, who used to frequent the place, were excited to see the changes. Unfortunately, he was away on business, so it was just the ladies exploring this new version of the former pub. The White Swan used to be a popular spot for the Fleet Street press crowd before it transformed into a more upscale pub and dining room. Now, as a pub and chophouse, it has quickly become a local favorite. The inviting aromas from the dining room drew us in as soon as we walked in, but first, we had to adhere to the golden rule of a boozy lunch and enjoy a gin and tonic. The White Swan had an impressive selection of gins, and our bartender recommended a refreshing Hendrick's gin with cucumber. Perfect choice! The new chophouse decor was a hit, with exposed brick walls and dark wood tables replacing the old white tablecloths and wallpaper. The room is available for private events and would be a fantastic place to host friends or colleagues. The menu featured classic pub dishes, as well as cuts of top-quality British meats and fresh fish from local sources. While Mr. Flavour would have gone for the aged White Park sirloin, we opted for lighter options like the celeriac and Blue Monday cheese salad and the Iron Age terrine with pickles. Both dishes were delicious and perfectly paired with a glass of Albarinho. The fish mains were equally impressive, with crispy fishcakes and flavorful Gurnard with braised fennel. The big chips were a standout, but unfortunately, we were too full for dessert. As much as I enjoyed my meal, I couldn't help but miss my husband and his hearty appetite. After a quick espresso, I headed back to work feeling satisfied and eager to introduce my clients to this fantastic new venue, which is available for hire every day of the week.

Excellent as long as they like meat. fine game terrine and excellent barnsley bargains, steaks, cakes and burgers. good fish also. imaginative wine list with good weeps through the glass and cask ales.
