Bidrage med feedbackThe food is nice, but there is a set, unwritten menu. The choice was bacalao (house specialty) or carne. We got cod (and only cod no other dishes) 6 different ways and were absolutely stuffed and had to cut off the kitchen from giving us more. It's the local way, apparently, but too much for us. Again, the dishes themselves were good. OK service.
We have been eating regularly at Osteria da Peppone not only because it's our local Osteria but because of the consistent, excellent quality of the food and the wine. Peppone Patrizia are a kind, caring and genuine couple who love to cook and entertain and this is all done with true professionalism. There are no menus but you can generally eat either meat, fish or the speciality of the house, Baccala. All the food is cooked with the freshest ingredients and with great flair by Peppone himself. In the Winter it is great to sit in the cosy dining room with roaring log fire and eat course after course of delicious, warming dishes, some even cooked on the log fire itself and then in Summer they have a beautiful terrace to enjoy plate after plate of fresh seafood. There are lots of delicious wines to choose from and Peppone can recommend the perfect wine to match your dishes. Make sure you go hungry as you won't be able to resist eating the full menu and always finished with the delicious Bocconotti handmade by Patrizia.
We walked to this osteria soon after arriving in Castel Frentano, Italy. Its well signposted from the main road and offers a set price meal including drinks for 25 euros per person. It's a bit strange having no menu whatsoever and having the owner choose for you but we went with it! Antipasti was large and varied with plenty of cheese and meat and deep fried vegetables. The amount was so large we skipped one of the courses but be warned this doesn't change the price. The meat dishes were beef, pork, lamb and ribs all cooked well over charcoal and desserts were fresh fruit. Our advice is go hungry and take whatever is cooking that day! Seems to be run by an older couple and it got really busy as we ate with locals, which is a good sign. A great introduction to Italian osterias.
Il miglior merluzzo sempre servito in diversi tipi di cottura! fantastico carpaccio e, tra i miei preferiti, quello accompagnato da peperoni! buon peppone per le scelte di piatti per la simpatia in servizio e per l'attenzione ai clienti (per me che sono allergici alla cipolla non c'era problema). Quando torniamo a pesca da nostri cugini sarà un piacere tornare a questa taverna.
