Bidrage med feedbackThe sushi at this restaurant is delicious! I highly recommend trying the calamari roll and the rainbow roll. The fish was very fresh and tasted amazing.
During my visit to Vancouver/Burnaby, I had my first meal at Satomi Sushi, recommended by my gracious hosts who said it was one of the best sushi restaurants in the area.
I first discovered Yakko Sushi around 2010 when they had a location adjoining the Metrotown Skytrain plaza. When that location closed around 2011, I learned about this location and have made sure to visit whenever in the area.I last visited Yakko Sushi near the end of February 2016. As usual, the service and food quality was excellent (highly recommend the smoked salmon nigiri). My partner and I came to visit Yakko again in April; however, it was closed for renovations. We finally made it back again just last week. Yakko Sushi is now "Satomi Sushi" post-renovations. The menu is basically the same (minus the prawn lover roll), and the quality is just as good. Definitely a great place to visit for sushi!
I used to frequent a Yakko Sushi restaurant in Station Square (Metrotown) before the whole block of buildings got torn town for development. It had been my favorite sushi place in the area. I missed going there. Now that I've visited this Kingsway Yakko Sushi, I'm wondering if this place is a new location operated by the same owners and chefs?!Anyway, without suspecting the above possibility, I took the chance of taking out-of-town visitors even though I hadn't eaten here before. I'd come across some excellent reviews, and we all wanted a new sushi experience.Very glad we chose Yakko Sushi! Our visitors said the food quality was better than ANY sushi they'd had in Edmonton, AB. I say it's the best sushi I've ever had in Greater Vancouver.Fresh! Tasty! Beautifully presented! Big servings! Extensive menu! Amazing prices!Do I need to say more? Well OK then. The staff are super friendly and very happy to explain anything on the menu. The location is central in Burnaby, right across Kingsway from Metrotown Mall, and well worth the trip whether you're in Vancouver or the suburbs. The street-front is small, easy to miss when driving by. When you enter, the general feeling is that it's small and not modern, kind of average in fact. But then the experience begins with open welcomes from staff and chef. We were seated in a booth for 4 right across from the chef's counter. The place was busy the whole time we were there, but we never felt rushed or pushed to finish. And it wasn't noisy (important because 2 of us wear hearing aids). We each ordered our own meal rather than bigger dishes to share, but it was all so fantastic that we couldn't help sharing bites of all items. There are some unique offerings on the menu, and I will keep going back to try them. Maybe I'll work my way through the whole menu -- it's that good!
Since the "boom" in Japanese food (especially sushi) in the late 1980's, there are lots of Japanese restaurants that aren't being run by Japanese. I have an iron-clad rule on ALL ethnic food: A restaurant serving ethnic food should be run by people of THAT ethnicity.Located nearby my accommodation, I spotted this place on a walk in the neighborhood. Checking their rating on TripAdvisor, I quickly decided on this place for dinner. It was my best meal in Vancouver, by far. When I entered I was given a hearty "irasshaimase" (welcome), which immediately confirmed the restaurant was authentically Japanese. This isn't a large restaurant, seating maybe 30 or so. At early dinner time, it was packed. There was no proper "sushi bar", but food preparation is done in view of the patrons. The server assured me that the sashimi was freshly selected everyday, and a combo would be selected by the chef on this basis. Also discovered they were serving Aji, a fish I love. Even the edamame (steamed soybeans) were spectacular - well prepared, served piping hot (from the steamer, not a microwave), and appropriately salted.Portions were generous, and service was swift.Pricing was surprisingly moderate - this meal was HALF the price of a similar meal I had recently in Hawaii. I sought out the owner/chef during my departure, and told him directly of his fine job.
