The most fiber filled soup in history was remarkably delicious. The steak, was undercooked but I like rare, and it was a good cut of sirloin. But the duck...ugh no crispy skin, no texture, cut an unflattering thickness. It was as if the previously frozen duck had been thawed, and frozen again. The Seagrille is okay....the fish and chips from the pub menu were a hit, and the cocktails from the pub were glorious. The wine menu was a little absurd lacking organization...but there were some treasures within. Thank goodness for an excellent waiter who was proficient, knowledgeable, and a sharp sense of humour...Seagrille is good...just not overwhelming as it has been in the past. Get a seat with a view...order the sushi...but keep your expectations in check.
After a long day of traveling, you don't need to leave your hotel to get an amazing meal. In fact, I wish I could have stayed longer, just for the food. The view at sunset was beautiful, the seafood was amazingly fresh, and the sushi was out of this world. Service was impeccable. The food took a while to arrive because it was made on demand, as all sushi should be. It was certainly worth the wait!
Called on Thursday April 20th for reservations that night and were told they were really busy and dinner would be later than we wanted. So we booked Fri at 7:30 for what we thought would be a pleasant dinner out.Arrived at 7:30 and were seated at 7:35 by a pleasant young host. Then we sat for 15 minutes unattended. The waiter came and we asked a question about the menu and wait times and we ordered wine He disappeared and we waited for his return and an answer. It was 8:13 when he returned and we were able to order. We had decided we would leave if he wasn't back by 8:15! Dinner finally ordered after 45 minutes of sitting ,mostly with no water, bread or wine.Dinner arrived at 8:45. My wife had the salmon and spot prawns at $36 and I had Halibut fish and chips from the pub menu at $24The meals at the Lodge are nicely presented and the qualities are ample. Prices for restaurant entrees are in the 32-$38 range so one expects good food and good service. We are locals and have been coming to the Lodge frequently over the years but we are getting increasingly frustrated by slow service in the restaurant and in the pub. It seems the kitchen is under-staffed or just slow. Surely the busy times are known to mgt. and additional staff needs to be brought in.
The view is great and the menu is creative. We enjoyed it very much. Be sure to make a reservation sit got crowded every night.
I was looking forward to a pleasant evening out with my hubby and was let down big time. We were out on the patio previously and it wasn't bust and were quite pleased with the service, food and atmosphere. Being inside was a definite negative as there are no sound baffles and the noise just bounced of each surface. We couldn't hear ourselves across the table from one another and the food was overpriced and mediocre. Service was OK although we waited for 10 minutes after being seated for a beverage order to be taken. Led to the inevitable comment from the hubby. "Is this a restaurant or a waiting room"? I wouldn't go back until they smarten up the menu and will definitely not bother until I can sit outside.
