Bidrage med feedbackA very Malaysian Chinese restaurant no frills, plain. Don't look for fine dining. I went undercover as a sole senior citizen. Malaysian service is typically curt, rude and abrupt so don't expect any better. People were there mostly Asian. No Australians. Prices were reasonable. Service reasonably fast. Taste meh. Not if you you know what Jonker Street in Melacca is supposed to be. Overall 3/5. The boss lady was serving you can tell. Bossy
Called ahead to book a table for 7. Was told no need to book. Went there and was told had to wait for at least 30 minute
Allow me to be critical. All the reviewers here state how great the malaysia food here is.Obvious to a Malaysian like me, it is like reading a review of a person going to eat flake and chips and said how fantastic Aussie food is. We went to newly opened jonkers street 2 with a 30% discount opening offer) Will rate it 0.5 on a scale of 10. place was choc a bloc and packed with people, many unlikely to be msians as they would know better what msian food should be about or taste like. We ordered the sweet n sour fish $32) , Kang Kong convulus veggie) and minced pork with bean curds were passable Total bill $55 after discount. Overall, poor and not value for money .. though belachan kangkong is ok. If you want more authentic msian food , go to kingways ..at least they are less pretentious or Boxhill msian restaurants. If you find any Malaysian eating here and said it 's good, I ll take back what I said above. Certainly a restaurant servicing dishes like here will be closed down in a month or 2 coz of low quality n expensive Come to Malaysia n try the tai chow at any hole in the wall eatery before you make the claim here it 's good food here !! Really disappointed !
This was our first visit here and was not disappointed! Great food, service and pleasant atmosphere. Even though it was a busy Saturday evening, we felt quite welcomed by the busy but warm hospitality, authentic Malaysian food and family like service. Will definitely recommend and visit again.
Allow me to be factual. No restaurants outside of Malaysia, or their countries of origin (CoO) can ever claim to 100% the same in Australia. It's just plain ridiculous to say so, unless the restaurant is able to obtain and use the exact same ingredients from those CoO. Any (authentic) reviewer should take this into account and perhaps adjust their opnions accordingly. I've been dining at the Jonker Stree Restaurant (JSR) Doncaster for the last couple of years and not found it wanting of taste, quality, or size. The waiting staff has always been friendly and their beverages well made. My favorite beverage is the 3-layered tea, and one of my favorite dishes is their deep fried whole Barramundi in nyonya sauce. Others include the Choy Heong homemade bean curd and the Yam Ring (mine with Kong Po chicken). Never claiming to be the best, nor 100% authentic Malaccan/Malaysian food, JSR continues to serve tasteful cuisines at (Australian/Melbourne comparison rates) reasonable prices, that will have me back each time.
