Bidrage med feedbackNdered in with my wife starving in the afternoon just having arrived in Assisi. Tried to find something not resembling a tourist trap. Had no idea what we were in for. First, the owner/manager (wish I had gotten his name) let us try about 5-6 amazing cheeses and cured meats gratis to decide what we wanted on our panino. Unbelievable deer sausage and pecorino and a prosciutto and fresh buffalo mozzarella sandwich on fresh perfectly crusty bread with a touch of fresh Umbrian olive oil. Best sandwiches in recent memory. All for 3.50 euro a piece. The kindness and authenticity of this small shop is something special. Visit it when in Assisi and skip the tourist traps in central square.
Not that they won't let you come in and look around...just that you can't really get out of there empty-handed. I was already interested in some picnic provisions, but wasn't sold on this being the place. But after about 6 samples (which truly sold themselves) we were out the door with an incredible spread.
La casa dei sapore, gelateria tradizionale, its a wonderful must in Assisi. Best chocolate and Pistacio icecream we have ever had.
