Bidrage med feedbackOur meal at Cafe Millet consisted of a variety of delicious dishes, including squash potage, tofu, grilled vegetables, vegan pizza, rice with aduki beans, edamame, vegan quiche, green salad, and apple tea. The bread served was baked in-house and we had the option to add honey harvested from their own hives. The portions are moderate and served in Japanese style, costing around 2500 yen. Despite the price, the beauty of the surroundings and the quality and presentation of the food make it worth it. The cafe also sponsors art, music, and crafts events. Reservations are required, and you can contact them at 075-741-3303 or via email. To reach Cafe Millet, simply take the Kyoto Bus 34 from Demachiyanagi Station, exit at exit 7, and look for Bus stop E right in front of the station. From there, take the bus to the end station Shiroyama, and walk 3 minutes in front of the farmhouse on the left side of the main road. Look for a sign that says "Millet" in front of the house. We made our reservation via email as we didn't have a phone. This review was updated on Friday, October 16, 2015.
Cafe Millet is a hidden gem nestled in the mountains that you'll want to keep all to yourself. I absolutely adore this place. It may be a bit off the beaten path, but trust me, it's well worth the visit. The café is surrounded by breathtaking scenery and serves up exceptional food. The owner sources fresh vegetables and fruits from their own farm, creating dishes that burst with flavor. Be sure to make a lunch reservation ahead of time (I believe it's required at least a day in advance), but the owner was kind enough to whip up a delicious meal for me on the same day I visited. Cafe Millet also hosts weddings and workshops, making it a versatile and picturesque venue. I highly recommend this spot as a lovely escape from the hustle and bustle of city life. There's a bus that can take you there, but it only runs once an hour, so plan accordingly and you won't be disappointed.

While it may be a bit off the beaten path, I assure you that it is well worth the visit. The cafe's atmosphere is fantastic and the food is out of this world. The owner sources fresh, sweet produce from their farm right outside the cafe, and you can taste the difference immediately. It's recommended to make a reservation for lunch (at least a day in advance), but the owner graciously whipped up a meal for me on the same day I called.
